HAIR-Q

Summary

Hair loss is a common condition that affects people of all ages and genders, with causes ranging from genetics to stress and hormonal imbalances. The psychological impact of hair loss is significant, affecting body image and quality of life. HAIR-Q is a valid reliable tool for measuring patient satisfaction with hair appearance and can be applied across different hair loss conditions. HAIR-Q is developed by Drs. Anne Klassen & Andrea Pusic.

The HAIR-Q, a new 14-item scale, is the first in a planned series of PROM tools. It measures satisfaction with hair and was developed through interviews with individuals seeking treatment from dermatologists and plastic surgeons. Content validity was confirmed through cognitive debriefing interviews with 11 patients, as well as input from 12 clinical experts. Feedback from 59 individuals undergoing various hair loss treatments further refined the scale. The HAIR-Q demonstrated strong reliability and validity using Rasch measurement theory, based on data from 390 participants worldwide.
