The focal point of research in vehicle transportation and electrification at McMaster University is the 80,000 square-foot, state -of-the-art McMaster Automotive Resource Centre (MARC).

Located at the McMaster Innovation Park, MARC is strategically placed at the hub of a transportation network that links automotive manufacturers and suppliers in Canada, the U.S.A. and internationally.

MARC will house industry-scale labs, classrooms and equipment to prototype vehicles of the future. Both academic and industry organizations, from OEMs to parts suppliers to start-ups, will have access to MARC to pursue market-oriented research and development.

The first phase of MARC is expected to open in September 2013. The $26-million project is expected to employ more than 120 people when completed.

"McMaster is among very few universities worldwide equipped to design and build a vehicle from the ground up, right on campus," says Ali Emadi, Canada Excellence Research Chair Hybrid Powertrain, and Director, MacAUTO. "This capacity, combined with a diverse range of research and teaching expertise, will enable us to develop the next generation of smart, sustainable transportation, one that replaces fossil fuels with electrification. It will create new technologies, new industries and transform how people and goods are moved."
