Major Prizes & Awards Opportunities & Deadlines

This is where you'll find a month-by-month listing with internal McMaster deadlines and external sponsor deadlines. Each listing links to a useful "at-a-glance" page providing information about eligibility and what's required for the nomination package.

  • Wolf Prize : Since 1978, five or six prizes ($100,000 each) have been awarded annually in the Sciences. Prize fields comprise: AGRICULTURE, CHEMISTRY, MATHEMATICS, MEDICINE and PHYSICS. In the Arts, the prize rotates annually among ARCHITECTURE, MUSIC, PAINTING and SCULPTURE. Sponsor Deadline September 15, 2017
  • NSERC Prize for Science Promotion : The NSERC Awards for Science Promotion honour people and groups that are inspirational in the way they promote science to the general public. Individual recipients will receive a $10,000 award and group recipients a $25,000 award. In both cases, the funds are to support further science promotion activities. Sponsor deadline September 1, 2017
  • Sloan Research Fellowships: The Sloan Research Fellowships seek to stimulate fundamental research by early-career scientists and scholars of outstanding promise. These two-year fellowships are awarded yearly to 126 researchers in recognition of distinguished performance and a unique potential to make substantial contributions to their field. The size of the award is $65,000 for a two-year period. Sponsor Deadline: September 15, 2017; Nomination Details announced mid-summer.
  • Guggenheim Research Fellowships: Guggenheim Fellowships are intended for individuals who have already demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts. Fellowship awards vary. Sponsor Deadline: September 19, 2017

If you intend to submit a nomination for one of these awards, please notify , Manager, Prizes and Awards. Danelle can help facilitate the nomination process and determine if, in some cases, an internal competition needs to be held to select an institutional nominee. We'd also like to hear from you if you are planning to submit a nomination so that nomination activity can be effectively and confidentially tracked.
