The McMaster Centre for Research on Employment and Work (MCREW) is helping reshape conversations about the future of work.
MCREW brings together researchers from across disciplines to study changing workplaces, workers and employment systems.
Last month, MCREW hosted a one-day conference, Interdisciplinary Approaches to Studying Work and Workers, which convened researchers and scholars to explore how technological change, economic shifts and evolving workplace expectations are transforming work across sectors.
The conference reflected MCREW’s broader mission of breaking down academic silos and creating opportunities for collaboration across fields including business, health sciences, engineering, humanities, social sciences, and science.

Founded in 2025 as a collaboration among researchers from all six McMaster faculties, MCREW was created to deepen understanding of how workers navigate, adapt to and resist changing workplace demands. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration, MCREW is helping build a more comprehensive understanding of the future of work and the policies, practices and systems needed to support workers and workplaces in a rapidly changing world.
