Summary

Life is complicated and learners of all types are impacted by what they bring to the learning environment. This module explores trauma-informed pedagogy, including how trauma impacts learning, and introduces strategies to consider new ways to cultivate positive learning spaces.

This work is a knowledge module created for faculty regarding trauma-informed pedagogy. The module defines trauma-informed pedagogy (including its limits), presents a case-study highlighting the impact of trauma on learning, and suggests some trauma-informed pedagogical practices in four priority areas (predictability, flexibility, connection, and empowerment). These pedagogical practices are aimed at mitigating the effect of trauma on learning.
