McMaster has a Master UBMTA in place with Addgene that enables faster processing of your requests and an automated approval without the need to for institutional sign-off for each request. Note that the lead McMaster researcher is responsible for ensuring that all certifications and approvals associated with the research and use of the material, such as biosafety and ethics, are in place and that the terms and conditions contained the UBMTA, summarized below, are followed.

Terms and Conditions Summary

Ownership and Title

• Provider retains ownership of the Material, including any Material contained in or included in any Modifications.
• Material may be the subject of a patent application. No express or implied license or other rights are provided to the Recipient to use the Material, Modifications, or any related patents of the Provider for Commercial Purposes.

Purpose and Permitted Use

• Material is provided solely for academic research and teaching purposes and not for any commercial purpose.

Use Restrictions

• Material is not to be used in humans, clinical trials, or for diagnostic purposes without the Provider’s written consent.
• Material is only for use by the Recipient/Recipient Scientist’s lab (i.e., McMaster University / McMaster University Scientist’s lab) and is not to be shared or supplied to any third parties.

Third-Party Requests

• Any third-party requests for the Material shall be referred to the Provider / Provider’s Scientist.

Commercial Use & Licensing

• If the Recipient wishes to use the Material or Modifications for Commercial Purposes, the Recipient must negotiate in good faith a commercial license with the Provider.

Publication and Acknowledgment

• Agreement shall not be interpreted to prevent or delay publication of research findings resulting from the use of the Material or Modifications.
• Recipient Scientist agrees to provide appropriate acknowledgment to the source of the Material in all publications.

Compliance & Regulations

• Recipient agrees to comply with all applicable statutes and regulations relating to research involving the use of animals or recombinant DNA.

Cost & Fees

• Material is provided at no cost but may be subject to a transmittal fee to reimburse the Provider for preparation and distribution costs.
