Description:

This international funding opportunity supports collaborative social sciences and humanities research that examines how societies envision, prepare for, and respond to uncertain futures shaped by climate change, health crises, geopolitical tensions, economic disruption, and technological change. Funded projects will advance conceptual, empirical, and normative understanding of societal transitions and generate evidence to inform resilient, inclusive, and forward‑looking policy and practice at local, national, and international levels.

Scope and Research Focus
Proposals must address one or more of the following overarching themes:
  • Uncertainty: its sources, costs, communication, and mitigation
  • Futures and crisis: historical, cultural, and regional perspectives
  • Response strategies: scope, coordination, and governance
  • Normative inquiry: prevention, preparedness, and responsibility
A wide range of disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and methodological approaches within SSH are welcome. Full details are provided in the official call documents
Project Roles and Submission Platform
  • Projects are submitted by a Lead Principal Investigator (Lead PI) on behalf of the consortium.
  • The Lead PI must be a co‑PI based in a participating T‑AP country.
  • The Lead PI submits both the Letter of Intent (LOI) and the full proposal via the DFG elan Portal.
  • All Lead PIs and co‑PIs must create an elan account.

Eligibility:

This competition uses a coordinated funding model, where each funding organization supports its national research team(s).
Key requirements:
  • Applications must involve at least three eligible co‑PIs
  • Co‑PIs must be based in three different participating countries, with representation from both sides of the Atlantic
  • All national eligibility rules apply; if one partner is ineligible, the entire proposal is ineligible
Applicants are strongly encouraged to consult the national addenda and confirm eligibility with the funding agency at least 6 weeks before the deadline. All Addenda are available on the TAP P4T website.
Canadian Eligibility (SSHRC)
  • The Canadian PI must be affiliated with an eligible Canadian postsecondary institution
  • In addition to the joint T‑AP proposal, Canadian applicants must submit budget and administrative documents to SSHRC via the Convergence Portal by October 28, 2026

Application/Nomination Process:

By June 22, 2026
Email ROADS to confirm intent to apply.

By July 8, 2026
Lead PI submits the Letter of Intent via the DFG elan Portal.
Applications without an LOI will not be considered.

By October 7, 2026
Submit draft application to ROADS for review.

By October 21, 2026
Submit final application and a completed Application Approval Form to ROADS.
Late submissions may not receive a full review.

By October 28, 2026
Canadian PI submits required documents to SSHRC Convergence Portal
