SSHRC will not fund the full cost of any Connection project. SSHRC requires matching contributionscash and/or in-kind—equal to at least 50% of the requested SSHRC request (excluding registration fees). Applicants must include letters of support confirming the type and value of contributions from sponsoring organizations.

Description:

Connection Grants support short-term, targeted knowledge mobilization through events and outreach activities aligned with the objectives of the Research Partnerships program. Events are typically brief (e.g., a 2-day conference or 1-week workshop), while outreach activities aim to engage the broader public through diverse methods such as dissemination, translation, networking, and co-creation beyond what a typical event would achieve.

Proposed events and outreach activities
  • All activities must take place within 12 months of the start date indicated on the Notice of Award (see decision dates in the funding cycle schedule).
  • Proposed activities must deliver timely, tangible outputs—such as conference proceedings or other knowledge products in traditional or digital formats—and may serve as one-time events or catalysts for long-term research partnerships

Eligibility:

Individuals can apply, as an applicant, for only one Connection Grant per calendar year.
Applicants or project directors on an active SSHRC Connection Grant cannot apply as applicant or project director for another individual or institutional Connection Grant.

Application/Nomination Process:

By March 20, 2026: Contact Amanda Graveline, Senior Advisor, Development (ROADS) to confirm your intent to apply.

By April 8, 2026 (9:00 AM)*: Submit your draft application and letters of support to ROADS for content review.

By April 23, 2026 (9:00 AM)*: Submit your final application and a completed, signed Application Approval Form to ROADS for administrative review.

By May 1, 2026 (4:30 PM): ROADS will submit your application to SSHRC.

* Note: Applications received after this date may not receive a full review.
