Description:
To support increased funding values and support for long-term research (3 years) in the social sciences and humanities. The grants support Canadian scholarly research and dissemination by offering a contribution to enable journals to defray the costs associated with publishing open access scholarly articles and digital journal dissemination.
Additional Program Information:
SSHRC will host two webinars via MS Teams to provide updates and answer questions. Registration is required.

Eligibility:
Proposals can involve any discipline, thematic area, approach or subject area eligible for SSHRC funding. See the guidelines on subject matter eligibility for more information.
A journal is ineligible for funding under this funding opportunity if:
- its mandate and/or content is primarily focused outside of the discipline(s) within SSHRC’s mandate; and/or
- its content is primarily health-related and focused on clinical research and education, psychomotor research and kinesiology, counselling and therapy, and epidemiology.
The applicant must:
- be the editor-in-chief of the journal or, in the case of an editorial collective, one of the editors;
- be a faculty member affiliated with an eligible Canadian postsecondary institution; and
- assume responsibility for the grant.
Application/Nomination Process:
By August 18, 2025 (9:00 AM)*: Email draft application to your Senior Advisor for content review.
By September 3, 2025 (9:00 AM)*: Submit your final application through the SSHRC portal for administrative review . Submit a completed, signed Application Approval Form to ROADS.
By September 10, 2025 (4:30 PM): ROADS will submit your application to SSHRC.
* Note: Applications received after this date may not receive a full review.
