Description:

Phase 1 of the Mitacs Accelerate Global Excellence Award closed on May 1, 2026. All Phase 1 submissions received by the deadline will proceed to adjudication. Successful candidates will be notified of outcome decisions in early fall 2026.

Mitacs is introducing Phase 2 of the Mitacs Accelerate Global Excellence Award providing an additional opportunity for institutional participation.

Increased flexibility in identifying postdoctoral fellows: Projects can be submitted by a faculty member and partner organization without a named postdoctoral fellow. To support the conversion of projects within a reasonable timeline, we request all approved projects name a postdoctoral fellow within 6 months of approval.

This phased approach is intended to balance the timely adjudication of ready‑to‑submit Phase 1 projects with the added flexibility your institution may require identifying partners, refining projects, and recruiting candidates.

Canada Impact+ Research Training Award candidates at the postdoctoral level could be considered in this process if they are a potential fit for the Mitacs Accelerate Global Excellence Award. This would enable a broader pool of candidates to be supported through a combination of the two programs.

Application/Nomination Process:

Extended timeline: Applications will be accepted until Friday, September 11, 2026.

Adjudication: Applicants will be notified of award decisions in early 2027.
