Description:
The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) received a 2022/2023 Strategic Alignment Fund (SAF) for the project entitled “Improving in-program support and graduation rates among learners from equity deserving groups in the Faculty of Health Sciences” (Applicants: Rob Whyte, Steve Hanna, Dina Brooks, Mark Walton & Sandra Carroll). The overall goal of the SAF is to implement and evaluate various approaches to support learners in the FHS from equity deserving groups to be successful over the course of their educational studies.
This funding encompasses all undergraduate, postgraduate, and graduate programs in the FHS. The proposal identified 4 possible types of projects:
- Mentorship Programs: funding programming, training, and direct funding to mentors
- Academic and General Support: for learners from equity-deserving groups
- Peer Support / Student Groups
- Establish a Digital Footprint: representation of members of equity-deserving groups in our digital environment (marketing, learning management systems, website assets, etc.)
Please consider the following:
- Priority will be given to applications that integrate activities across more than one program.
- The SAF can cover up to 2/3 of the cost, with the rest of the funds being secured from matched funding (Department/ School, existing grant, education program, in-kind). You are responsible for securing the matching funds before applying.
- In-kind funding must be quantifiable (cost of purchasing supplies, renting space; FTE cost of administrative support; etc.)
- Each application should include an evaluation plan.
- Please consider if there is a role of the library in the project.
- The projects are not meant to duplicate similar support or activities that occur centrally at the University. If a similar program exists centrally, you must justify the need for a program-specific approach.
