The ORF-RE program promotes research excellence of strategic value to Ontario by supporting new leading-edge, transformative, and internationally significant research. The fund provides up to one third of the total value of a project, with the remaining two thirds coming from a combination of private sector and institutional contributions.
The purpose of ORF-RE Round 12 is to accept applications from all research disciplines with priority research areas that support government initiatives, as follows:
- Automotive (including electric vehicles)
- Artificial Intelligence
- Critical Minerals (including research that supports Ontario’s Ring of Fire)
- Genomics
- Life Sciences (supports Ontario’s Life Sciences Strategy and provides an opportunity to leverage federal funding provided through the Canada Biomedical Research Fund (CBRF) stage 2 competition)
- Medical devices
- Quantum Technology
