Description:

The New Research Collaboration Program is open to every field of expertise and provides financing for new scientific projects jointly developed by French and Canadian teams that have never worked together before. The program aims to accomplish the following objectives:

  • support the development of new expert partnerships/new collaborations between France and Canada (only projects involving collaboration between researchers who have never worked together will be considered);
  • promote the advancement of research and innovation;
  • prepare and structure scientific cooperation between the two countries;
  • promote researcher mobility, particularly for early-stage researchers; and
  • provide research training for researchers at the master’s and doctorate levels.

The Program will evaluate proposals on the following criteria:

  • Contribution to the advancement of knowledge (quality, relevance)
  • Innovative nature of the proposed project (expected project impact)
  • Quality of the researchers and team members (publications, credits, other types of prior recognition)
  • Proposed execution of research (methodology, calendar, budget)
  • Significance and contributions of the binational collaboration (complimentarity and balance between teams)
  • Participation of master’s/doctoral students (contributions, benefits)

The 2023 FCRF is open to all fields of research and promotes interdisciplinary projects. Up to 20 collaborative projects will be funded — of these, up to 8 will address one of two priority themes: (1) One Health? A multi-sector approach to achieving health equity; and (2) Climate Change and Adapting to Extreme Environments.

Eligibility:

Applications must come from principal investigators (PIs), both from research establishments located in France and Canada. Please note that PhD Candidates and individuals holding postdoctoral positions are not eligible to apply as a PI. The PI must hold a tenure or tenure-track position, or full-time position working at an affiliate institute. Teams not selected in previous editions that wish to apply again must inform the Embassy of France in Canada at the time of submitting their new application.

Application/Nomination Process:

The FCRF program has limited the number of applications that may be submitted by McMaster University to five (5). Applications submitted by November 17, 2023 will undergo an internal review process and those selected will be forwarded to the FCRF by December 22, 2023 for further consideration by a joint Canada-France committee.
