Call for Flash Presentations: Critical Disability Research/Teaching Cluster

To mark and celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3rd), the Employee Accessibility Network invites Critical Disability scholars and educators at McMaster University to meet and share our work with each other.

Our hope is to support and facilitate intergenerational community across roles and locations in the university, to advocate for the development of education, teaching/learning approaches, and research related to disability (e.g., a Disability Studies Minor and Research Group), and to explore interest in future activities.

Are you:

1.) Engaged in research or scholarly inquiry related to disability?

For example, work engaged with Critical Disability Studies, Deaf Studies, Disability Justice, Mad Studies, Neurodiversity Studies, Critical Autism Studies, Critical Access Studies, and/ or interrelated areas?

You may be conducting this inquiry as part of a research program, course assignment, independent study, thesis or dissertation, community-engaged or volunteer project, project to develop curriculum or enhance teaching and learning, program evaluation, arts-based inquiry, or other approach to advancing knowledge and practice?

2.) Connected to McMaster University?

For example, an individual undergraduate or graduate student or alumni, postdoctoral fellow, staff member, researcher, faculty member, educator, and/or team of folks?

3.) Looking for a place to share and receive feedback on your work and find colleagues and collaborators with similar research interests?

Consider applying to give an oral presentation of your work (5-7 minutes or 15 minutes + Q&A) – either to an open/public audience, or a thematic small group of 5-10 fellow presenters!!

Presentations might include one or more of the following:

  • An introduction to who you are and your research interests;
  • Brief description of a current project you’re working on (e.g., a paper, thesis, grant proposal, a course you’re designing);
  • Projects/topics for which you’re seeking collaborators or discussion with colleagues;
  • Presentation of the framework, methodology, ethical tensions, and/or findings/arguments from a project (e.g., a conference-style presentation); and/or
  • A presentation you’ve previously shared elsewhere (e.g., for a class presentation, a lecture)

Timeline:

  • Submit your presentation proposal via this form by November 12.
  • The presentation schedule will be confirmed by November 19.
  • Presentations take place December 1.
