Dear Members of the Research Community:
Just a short note to advise that the province-wide stay-at-home order – effective Thursday, April 8 at 12:01 a.m. and expected to last at least four weeks – will not affect our current status of research activity under Phase 1, in which we are currently operating.
As a reminder, for those who are working in your labs, please ensure that your research team is limited to only those who absolutely need to be on campus, they stay for the shortest time possible, restrict movements to areas essential to their research, and follow all health and safety protocols. If your research staff and students can conduct their work from home, or if their activity can pivot to work that can be conducted from home, it is imperative they do not come to campus.
If your research takes place at a hospital site or McMaster Innovation Park, you must also adhere to site-specific protocols.
On a personal note, the longer this continues, the more I’m reminded of the power of research. Well beyond the creation of new knowledge, it’s about human contact – our camaraderie keeps us energized and engaged. I’m missing it terribly and I know others are, too. Now, more than ever, we need to look after one another and be mindful of the health supports and resources available as we move through this – and hopefully last – stay-at-home order.
