Federal government announces new policy to protect Canadian research
The federal government’s Sensitive Technology Research and Affiliations of Concern (STRAC) Policy was released on January 16, 2024, and will come into effect on May 1, 2024. The policy is not retroactive.
Our research administration and security teams will review the policy promptly and consult with our academic and government partners to determine best practices and mitigation strategies to best support McMaster’s research community. Once that review is complete, we will share further guidance directly with our research community.
We recognize the value of international collaborations in advancing our discoveries, and ensuring McMaster’s research remains secure and competitive. And we appreciate the government’s guidance in identifying high-risk partners and helping to minimize the potential of emerging threats.
